Paternoster Row has been recognised by the LABC winning the ‘Best Non-residential Extension, Alternation or Conversion’ at the 2023 building excellence awards, within the Northern Region.
Working with the Client (Castles & Coasts Housing Association) the Architect (Architects Plus) and the wider design team, Sine Consulting were able to deliver the sustainability aspirations of the Client whilst being sympathetic to the historic character of the Grade II Listed building within the conservation area of Carlisle City Centre.
This comprised of the introduction of highly efficient systems such as LED luminaires utilising automatic controls and packaged heat recovery ventilation units linked to the building management system to disable the unit out of hours. The introduction of a roof mounted photovoltaic (PV) system helped to further reduce the carbon footprint of the building.
The result was a comfortable and contemporary office with spaces geared to flexible working, bookable offices and co-working open plan office spaces, all whilst significantly reducing running costs.
The project has now been shortlisted for the national awards (LABC Grand Finals) on the 19th of January, 2024. A testament to all involved and fingers crossed, we can provide a positive update regarding this next year.
