Sheraton Park Student Accommodation, Durham

The Sheraton Park project comprised the redevelopment of the former New College site near Nevilles Cross in Durham. The development was commissioned by Alumno Developments Ltd to provide accommodation for students attending Durham University.

The facility which comprises the refurbishment and conversion of Neville House, and construction of a new a new 5 storey building Sheraton House, provides accommodation for up to 420 students. The residential units are a mix of studios /apartments and multi bedroom cluster flats.

Work started in October 2015 and was completed and opened in August 2017.

Central boiler plant serving the site was located within the existing Neville House accommodation. The main plant comprised high efficiency gas fired boilers serving a radiator network. Hot water storage was provided within each of the accommodation blocks using tank in tank rapid recovery cylinders served from the central boiler plant.

Lighting throughout the development utilised LED technology to minimize lighting energy consumption whilst maintaining and achieving the desired lighting levels.

The refurbishment and construction of the new accommodation block cost in excess of £12 million, and provided the following facilities:

  • 420 residential student bedrooms, all with ensuite/shower room

  • Student Bar

  • On site health and fitness centre

  • Student Services Lounge

  • Meeting/conference room

  • Coffee shop
